Watu Blencong

Watu Blencong Mary Cave is a Catholic pilgrimage site located in Borosuci Hamlet, Banjaroya Village, Kalibawang District, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. This place is known as a spiritual pilgrimage destination for Catholics, not only from Yogyakarta but also from various regions in Indonesia.

History and Meaning of the Name
Watu Blencong Mary Cave was inaugurated on January 1, 2009. Its existence represents the history of the struggle and spiritual transformation of the Catholic community in the surrounding area. Literally, "Watu Blencong" means "Blencong Stone" (a blencong is a type of traditional oil lamp that emits light). This name was chosen because, during the early days of devotion to the Virgin Mary at this location, the cave was said to emit light at night.

A Center for Devotion and Hope for the Community
This Mary Cave features a statue of the Virgin Mary erected inside an open cave. Since its inauguration, many Catholics have come to make pilgrimages, pray, and seek spiritual enlightenment. The term blencong (light/lamp) holds deep symbolic meaning for pilgrims. They come to Watu Blencong in hopes of finding "light," such as enlightenment in facing life's challenges and finding a way to brighten their spiritual future.

Its relatively close proximity to the Kiskendo Cave tourist attraction makes the Watu Blencong Maria Cave a pilgrimage site offering inner peace and reflection amidst the beautiful natural surroundings of the Kulon Progo hills.
